Please Note: I believe it prudent to send most things to qualified repair facilities (I recommend Macie Video) if you are not mechanicly or electrically inclined. But, as freelance field DP's I feel we should know as much about the tools we use as possible. Unfortunatly, grit in a lens has to be one of the most common of field failures I have seen.

All you need for this repair are a few phillips jewelers screwdrivers, tweezers, sticky tape (to keep track of loose screws), great lighting and a can of dust off. A super clean work area is also very important.

HVX200 Lens Removal and Cleaning

all images and text are copyright © 2009 - Digital Island Media

Notice: Front trim ring + 2 screws at top of photo on yellow post-it note. Take this off to reveal 5 screws that remove the entire lens.
When removing lens: NOTE!!! The lens is attached to the Cam still by a thin electronic ribbon. DO not break it.... It must be removed from the lens. It has a tiny silver screw that holds it up.
Once the circuit board and ribbon are freed from the back of the lens assy, then you can separate the lens into three pieces or rings as pictured.

To do this, remove the 4 small silver screws you see on the back side (camera side) of the lens assy.

Now you can separate and inspect the rings front and back to see the problem.

Email me if you have any more questions. I'll try to help if I can.

Here's a pic of the camera back in action!
